E-Safety

Using the internet and other online technology is an excellent tool to aid learning and growth in young children. We use different online technologies every day at Portmead, and many children thrive learning this way.

We have a responsibility as a school and as parents to teach children about how to stay safe online and how to continue to use the internet safely and responsibly. We are not in need of computer experts to teach online safety, all we need is the opportunity for clear communication with our learners about staying safe online, how to be a good digital citizen and understanding what this means.

Below you will find links to useful information to help you talk to your children about e-safety.

Curriculum for Wales

The curriculum in schools is changing.

As the world is changes, there are lots of new challenges
that will need new technology and new ideas.

The Welsh Government wants you to have the knowledge, skills and
experiences you’ll need to succeed.

Curriculum isn’t just about what you learn. It’s also about
how you learn and the reasons why you learn.

Home learning

There are so many different ways to encourage learning in your home.

Spending time with your children baking, planting, writing, reading, building, painting, making playdough and playing are all so important and provide many opportunities for learning.

These tasks provide opportunities to develop many skills such as language, maths and problem solving skills. They also give your child time to spend with you which is invaluable.

-Here we have also listed some useful websites should you wish to use them for further learning.

-HWB

All children have access to HWB which includes the full Microsoft Office Package, j2e resources and much more.

Please ask your child’s class teacher if they do not have their log in details.

Through j2e, learners can access timetables games, spelling games, coding platforms, drawing/writing software and graph making programs.

-To access this:

Log in to HWB first (https://hwb.gov.wales/) and navigate to j2e through HWB. Most children will be familiar with accessing HWB and j2e this way.
